-What you want to do first is measure the shock length. Measure the shock starting from the center of one end of the mounting bolts to the center of the other end of the mounting bolts on your rear shock. This will give you the Eye to Eye or shock length in inches. For example, lets say you measured and you have a measurement of 7.5 inches for the length of the shock.
-Now look on the spring. You will see something like this 400 x 2.0 painted onto the spring.
400 is poundage of the spring and 2.0 is the shocks stroke in inches.
-Once you determined the shock length or eye to eye measurement all you now need to do is add the stroke length. Together you have the size of the shock you will need for your bike.
-The shock size for the above example would be: 7.5" x 2.0"

*Some shocks need to be, measured in milimeters instead of inches. Hope this all made sense?
