How to Save a Relationship – Don’t Berate Your Significant Other When He Doesn’t Call You

You’ve been dating an amazing man that seems to be completely into you.  He calls you or you call him three or four times a day.  It seems you can’t get enough of each other then suddenly the calls reduce to one or two a day.  As time goes by, the calls are down to one per day or one every other day.  Your first instinct is to call him and ask him what happened and why he’s changed.  This is a mistake…don’t do it!

Instead, take stock on the man you’ve been dating.  Is he absorbed with his work, has he had a change in family situations or is he just afraid the relationship is moving too fast?  These are all factors to consider before you chew his head off for not calling.

The fact that he’s still calling you means he still wants to be a part of your life.  If you start nagging him and badgering him about not calling more often, he may eventually stop calling altogether.

This is the time to develop a deeper relationship.  When you have the opportunity to talk to him, make the most of it.  Don’t question why he doesn’t call but give him a sense of security that allows him to open up to you about what is going on in his life.  Take the phone opportunities to listen to what he’s dealing with in his life.  Express to him what you’ve been doing in his absence.  Enlighten him with interesting news and what is going on in the world.  Give his mind a chance to escape any tribulations he’s experiencing and simply enjoy talking to you.

He may have put off all the important things in his life to be with you in the beginning but life has caught up to him and now he needs to, once again, be responsible.  On the other hand, he may be truly feeling deep emotions for you that are scaring him away.  In either scenario, have some patience and understanding for your man.

Pay attention to what he says and what he feels.  He may not be able to comfortably express his internal feelings, but if you make that venture easy for him, he will open up to you.  Don’t scrutinize or correct his thoughts and feelings.  Don’t criticize his actions or beliefs.  Be understanding of his needs and respect his thoughts.  Establish a comfortable communication threshold that he can turn to when he needs to talk.  Allow him to express himself in a manner that he has never known.  You may discover that he isn’t pulling away from you but trying to find a way to become closer to you and it’s scaring him.
